The SALOMON SHANGHAI XINTIANDI FLAGSHIP STORE - VOIX OF MOUNTAIN, designed to showcase the trendy spirit of "SALOMON - Creating a Modern Mountain Sports Lifestyle," is a two-story retail terminal located in the core business district of Xintiandi, Shanghai, China, and is now open for business.
Adopting the design concept of "VOIX OF MOUNTAIN," the project differentiates itself from other outdoor brands by using concrete outdoor elements and innovatively employs abstract "sound" and "mountain ranges" as design elements, leading a new trend in outdoor brand spaces.
Auditorily, beyond the store's background music, the stairwell serves as an outdoor sound ex-perience area named "Wild Resonance." It features sound-triggered devices that replicate the wind rushing by during a trail run and the friction of snowboards on snow, embodying the ulti-mate pursuit of speed in outdoor sports. This creates an auditory environment where nature and human traces intersect, evoking the audience's auditory perception and body awareness. Visually, the design uses sound wave patterns as a vehicle for imagination, combined with the contours of undulating mountains to express "Voices of the Wilderness." Triangular elements extracted from mountain shapes are used to design a unique triangular prism LED screen de-vice, several of which are combined to present the undulating shape of mountain ranges. Vid-eos and music are synced to showcase flexible micro-scenes within the space.
In terms of materials, the interior and mechanical and electrical equipment meet LEED Gold requirements. (1) Air: The full heat recovery air handling unit boasts a heat recovery efficiency of 67% and a PM2.5 filtration rate of 99.5%, ensuring clean indoor air. (2) Temperature: The project uses energy-saving fan coil units below national energy efficiency standards and a first-class energy-efficient variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air conditioning system. (3) Lighting: Displays and lighting fixtures are made of LED materials certified by China Energy Conserva-tion, with Light Pollution Density (LPD) reduced by 16% compared to LEED limits. (4) Environ-mental protection: A large amount of eco-friendly inorganic stone is used, and paints and ad-hesives are also eco-friendly materials. During construction, the waste generation density is only 0.53kg/㎡.
In terms of spatial planning, the store is dedicated to immersing urban dwellers in a true out-door environment. (1) Ground floor: With a base color representing the city's stainless steel metal, the design uses gradient techniques and sound as an imaginative medium to depict mountain shapes, engaging with the city and showcasing the beauty of technology through dynamic experiential installations. (2) Staircase: An outdoor sound experience area, symboliz-ing the ascent towards the mountains. (3) Second floor: Continuing the gradient design lan-guage, the texture of the mountains serves as the environmental backdrop, symbolizing arrival and integration into the natural realm, reflecting the brand's diversity. Progressively, it com-pletes the transition from the city to the outdoors, allowing consumers to "experience" the soundscape and engage in dialogue with nature's mountains and rivers.
The project takes "voice" as an entry point, transforming the design concept into an artistic form integrated into the overall space, combined with the brand's full range of outdoor sports prod-ucts, to create a unique and innovative market image for SALOMON. Through innovation in design elements, interactive installations, experiential setups, and scene presentations, it re-flects SALOMON's outdoor genes, professional performance, and unique aesthetics, leading the trend once again.
