PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Located in Jiajiang Country of Leshan, a city of tourism, this project sits on the refurnishing effort of a traditional Szechuan country house which used to accommodate a primary school before its abandonment. After the refurnishing efforts, the exterior look of the house is themed with white plaster and traditional Chinese blue bricks as well as roof tiles. For the interior, apart from illustrating luxurious elements, our focus is on furnishing the style and atmosphere of the restaurant with simple stripes in coordination with the light.
Our design respects the circumstances around where the project is seated within – with the economic approach during the construction process, we refurnish the interior as its previous look.
Whilst revitalizing the site for modern use in an eco-friendly way, we maintain the appearance of the site. With consideration of the human factor in the design, efforts are devoted into the proper utilization of the space we have. We utilize the fabulous breathability of the Chinese blue roof tile to enhance the stack effect around the impluvium. It also cooperates to our reconstruction of the celling with recycled lumbers so that the reliance on air conditioning for temperature control during the daily operation will be reduced, for which we hope to further the environmental goal to the realization of carbon neutrality. The pool placed in the middle yard collects rainfall to supply water for the maintenance usage.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Thousand Buddha Rock (千佛岩), Chinese Shuen Paper (夹江宣纸) and New Year Banhua (年画) are representing elements of the local culture. We seek further potential of our design through digging into these local heritages, in accordance with the design philosophy of simplicity, nature and purity- We hope to break the cleavage between modernity and tradition, and the boundary between sumptuosity and dignity, whilst we attempt to merge them with innovation in the design. In terms of arrangements in the garden, the oriental gardening pursues a space of harmony with the nature to comfort the visitors: the essential part is not splendid technique, but to determine the one that best matching the surround circumstances through analysis of the geography, soil and climate in the spot. It was of this purpose that we chose these wooden table and chair sets in warm colours.. We hope our visitors to sit in a relaxing environment after a day of exhaustion, right before they welcome a performance of entertainment in all sense.
We seek aesthetic harmony in the space and quality The overall layout is spacious: walls of simplistic decorations are embellished with stripes and light. Some decorations are inspired by elements from the Thousand Buddha Rock nearby. The chandelier is carefully selected to echo the splashed-ink painting on the wall. “Still as it flows; dynamic as it might crush”, so do they express. We also use large-scale French windows to integrate the indoor dining experience with the outdoor courtyard scene, to pleasure the visitors with the poetic experience.
We also aim to recreate daily life scene in our design: with the use of simplistic design on the walls, as well as the corresponding choice of the lighting facilities and large indoor space that can seat group visitors, the dinning room produces a relaxing and cozy environment.
In the end, the once abandoned country house is renovated with respect to the surrounding history, as we need design with considerations of history, heritage and environment, rather than new concrete jungle one after another.
