DESCRIPTION

In conceptual creation, arch elements are introduced into the restaurant space, while minimalist straight lines and arcs are used as the basic elements of space design, with strong artistic plaster sculptures. Through the charming arc, arched shape with lighting and art paint with rust texture, the suitable soft outfit is configured to depict a beautiful catering streamline for the local business circle.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Gray and coffee are the theme colors, and gold is the decorative color of the space facade. Black and gray are the colors used for the door head. At the same time, it strengthens the visual effect of the space. At the same time, the arched partition screen of the dining area enhances the sense of rhythm of the restaurant, which makes the space form rich and the climax repeated. The large glass curtain wall of the outer wall brings into view the green plants outside, making the restaurant and the environment of the business district feel more enclosed.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Weizai Restaurant, located in the new financial district of Changsha Xiangjiang, is far away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. It is surrounded by modern glass buildings and busy traffic. After a busy day of work, modern city residents yearn for a place where they can find peace of mind and comfort to organize their day.
This is a Japanese kaisekiryouri charcoal barbecue restaurant. We hope to infuse this venue with the subtle and secretive cultural traits of the East - "finding a peace in the hustle and bustle of the city" - and to release the inner pressure by using the quietness of the space to separate the hustle and bustle of the surroundings.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

At the entrance, the design reshapes the limited small slope in the front of the restaurant and creates an outdoor landscape with black pine, bamboo, and black mountain stones to form a small transitional courtyard. Through the mutual display and concealment, brightness and darkness, light and shadow, movement and stillness, the straightforwardness and subtlety of the scene are related and contrasted, thus realizing the transition from the hustle and bustle to the peaceful, seclusion, and quietness of the restaurant's periphery.
The floor and scenic walls are treated with washed stone, a nostalgic texture that brings relaxation and comfort when people come to or pass through the courtyard. The sloping downward eaves form a transitional space with a flat entrance, and the lowered scale increases the affinity of the field. People can stop by and have a short conversation here. Under the eaves, which can be touched easily, a black pine tree stands near the stone, with moss and gravel underneath. Though small and beautiful, the courtyard has a distinctive natural change of seasons, which contrasts with the city life in the nearby bustling traffic.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Entering the lobby, the art glass with paper texture used in the foyer reflects the fireplace installation on the ground, showing the alternation of light and heat. The wood texture of the countertop and bar enhances the temperature and comfort of close contact. The curvature of the floor and ceiling and the material of the bonsai containers reveal shadow and coolness, self-control, and modesty. These two elements fuse the two sides of the same body, yin, and yang, which are characteristic of oriental beauty.——Just like the culinary art of kaisekiryouri charcoal grilling, the ingredients shine through the fire and the gentleness incorporated in the dark ceramic vessels.
The passage space leading to the private room is narrow and cramped. The design expresses a subtle and modest gesture of welcoming guests through the curves of two dimensions while solving the monotony of the passing experience. The curves that stretch with the space and the shapes that join together are like hand-made ingredients put together with both hands, highlighting the artisan spirit of concentration, repetition, and persistence, and the realm of divine thought of food reverence. At the end of the corridor is the art glass partition of the private room. The golden daylight flows through the glass into the dark interior. The hazy and quiet overflow of light seems to have some kind of divine presence, evoking people's feelings and contemplation in the present moment.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Based on the unique oriental understanding of objects, the design integrates the washbasin and the base into a white art installation. The warm and lustrous jade-like surface of the countertop and the hand-carved side texture form a contrast between refinement and ruggedness. Based on different light-facing surfaces, it presents a translucent skin and a deep projection, presenting a meditative beauty. The ceiling reflects the light and shadow of the flashing water waves, accompanied by the sound of water as if listening to Zen, creating a light and dense atmosphere of the place. Washing hands before meals as a necessary ritual before dining adds a sense of anticipation and intention to the dining experience process.
Passing through the corridor to the private room, the curved niche on the wall and the floor-to-ceiling bonsai form two curved sections, one standing and one flat. The silhouette is outlined by the light, brightening the deep and simple presence like lacquerware, serene and elegant. While the daylight keeps changing the angle of projection, the gravel and the bonsai absorb the light into them and fall on the wall to reveal the beauty of the change of intensity, which makes people ponder.——When we create the relationship between things and nature out of nothing by the hand of nature, this beauty comes to life.
Inside the private room, the mystery and height of the double curved dome creates a sense of dining ritual. The curved surface continues to the restrained floor-to-ceiling windows, moderately receding into the relationship between the interior and the outside objects, in order to be more suitable for people to serenely accept their own mind and focus on the experience of food.
Like the restaurant production of rigorous and persistent, humble and pragmatic service attitude, the space presents the pursuit of craftsmanship of artisanship, focus, and quiet, in the scene with the material and art form of Oriental subtlety. With those stone, iron plate cooking contains colorless fragrance, together polishing the original simplicity and beauty of the space temperature, the psychological realm of refreshment.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

The project is a well-known chain seafood restaurant of about 2,800 square meters, located in Shenzhen, China. The owner hopes that it will be upgraded into a brand new restaurant with a well-recognized image.
The fishing boat returned from a long journey full of seafood. Due to the persistent picture of fishing boats’ harvest, the restaurant providing guests with the freshest ingredients is what the project wants to express the most. Taking the fishing boat as the design inspiration, the cabin-like interior design extracts a very representative structural form. By decomposing and restructuring, it turned into a new space. With rustic and natural wood and rattan elements, the design creates a relaxed and intimate feeling for space. The curved lines, curved ceilings, and U-shaped partitions produce an echoing harmony, and also change the whole space. A small amount of ripple-like glass shimmers under the light, just like starlight scatters on the sea. The hollow arc partition maintains the privacy of the private room, and it also allows the guests to taste the freshest seafood in the cabin-like space, just like a meal in the real cabin.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Project Name: CoCo 9 Square Shop
Location: Jiujiang, China
Design Company: 123design
Chief Designer: Tuno Liu
Assistant Designer: Sam Yu
Area: 118 square meters
Cost: 0.28 million
Design Cycle: March 2021 - August 2021
Completion time: August 2021
Main Materials: terrazzo, atomized aluminum plate, texture coating
Client Name: Nio Young
Photographer: Little Praise
In recent years, the homogenization competition in the tea industry has become increasingly fierce. In this connection, each and every brand has focused on shaping its own icon to attract more younger customers. By the same token, CoCo also show its own uniqueness by design under this trend.
This case is located in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, which has one of the ten famous mountain Lushan unique geography and human history. When discussing the space design direction of the shop, the shopkeeper and the designer reached a consensus, hoping that the starting point of the creativity can reflect the Chinese philosophy of life when drinking water and thinking about the source, and get inspiration from the gift of nature, so that the guests who come to our store can have different associations and exchanges with the unique environment and humanities of Jiujiang.
Remove the glass and door of the store appearance, and the space form is more free
As the project is located inside the shopping mall, the designer first proposed to remove the glass and door, which was recognized by the owner and the shopping mall. In this connection, guests could enjoy themselves in this spacious room. The overall design of the space is based on the spirit head feature of CoCo brand. The designer draws three connected arcs in the sky, the ground and the wall respectively, circling around the circular pool of water ripples above the center of the guest area. Entering into this space, you could feel like in the forest embrace.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Passing through the store, visitors just need to move footsteps to see the outline of the elf head on the arc, which echoes the elves in the store. The scene seems to follow, but the essence is carefully deduced through design, such as the meaning of nature creating a mountain forest Wonderland.
Dynamic diagram of space conception
Guest area
Because the store is close to the cinema and catering area, in order to take care of the diversification of guest status, the guest sitting area has specially designed a circular island seat, except for the card seat through the whole wall. The connected green plant landscape and opposite long platform are combined into a guest sitting form that takes into account waiting, leisure and easy communication. The green plants in the center match the ceiling of the circular pool with water ripples, injecting vitality into the space, adding the front and back layers of the space, and making the relationship between the guests more harmonious, creating a natural and relaxed atmosphere in the store.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Inspired by the misty scene of Lushan Mountain, the wall of the guest sitting area is decorated with atomized aluminum plate as the background, so that the changes of environment, time and people are reflected in the clouds. The water ripple round pool ceiling in the center of the guest area is like a reversal of the lake scenery under the background of light and shadow. Viewed from different angles, the reflection of the lake also presents different changes.
The seemingly symmetrical and orderly space composition creates a varied visual experience
The arcs in different directions create a changeable visual effect in the space. From entering the store to ordering, sitting or leaving, customers can feel the changes of the space with the movement of their sight and position, which has the same wonderful effect as moving around the mountain. It also interprets the classic poem of Su Shi, a writer of the Song Dynasty, describing the beauty of Lushan Mount: “The peak is formed on the side of the ridge, and the distance is different. I don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain for I only live in this mountain.”

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

When moving to the corner of the store, you’ll find that with the weakening of natural light, the space changes from light to dark, driven to quiet. When the guests sit in the rising seats, the fairy heads on the wall bounce back and forth in a series of small round holes, making people surprised and smile.
One end of the corner is the operation room and the promenade in the form of the fire entrance. The long and narrow space is designed for single and double seats with the back against the wall. The dim light is like a path into the mountains. To this end, I could fully understand what the saying that “the road is so narrow that only one person can pass through”means.
“There are four seasons in a year and each days are different”. The indoor lighting is set with a variety of scene modes according to the time of the day. It can be light and bright during the day, and slow down the space rhythm with the weakening of brightness at night.
the design of this shop as an example. After inspecting the project site, I had no intention of visiting Lushan Mountain at first due to busy work. However, under the sincere invitation of the customer, I get a chance to see the unpredictable clouds and mists of Lushan Mountain, the precipitous and wonderful mountains. It also triggered the accidental consequences of the store’s design. As in life, facing the same thing, the view at this time will definitely be different from that at the time. Maybe we should express our current emotions more like a poet traveling through mountains and rivers!”

Lighting Design丨MAG studio Project Location丨Hong Kong, China
Project Type丨Restaurant
Project Area丨300sqm
Completion Date丨Aug 2021
Photographer丨Steven Ko
Different from the crowded and lively downtown of Hong Kong, the project which is located in Tseung Kwan O with a seaside runway is a casual, sporty and cozy restaurant. The Mediterranean cuisine is mainly provided for customers with equal emphasis on seafood and barbecue, the diversified and compatible culture is provided, the demand for an immersive experience with "THE HUNTER" as the core is put forward, and it seeks to create a more and more fascinating dining experience.
How to make the dining experience impressive? MAG believes that space design is far from enough. Designer Linc Mok has tried to make every visitor enjoy his or her identity as "THE HUNTER" starting with the brand and create a story about seabed exploration during the whole dining process with "hunting taste" as the direction to convey a concept that there are more delicious things in more "dangerous" places and the food which is more "difficult" to obtain must be more cherished. Therefore, MAG has created an immersive restaurant with the theme of "Hunt deep, taste deep" by using Mediterranean culture and nautical elements as the design inspiration and blue color as the main style.
It is like walking from a long sandy beach into the ocean, the interior is mainly decorated with ocean blue color style, the outdoor is mainly decorated with beige color style, and a new balance and aesthetic order are sought for in the collision cascade. THE HUNTER is completely open like the sea, the ground in sandy color style is paved on "beach" where the wall decorations in rocky wall texture, bamboo woven ceilings, wicker chairs, etc. are distributed, which embodies the leisure elements on the shore everywhere.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

If accessing to the sea, the floor on which blue and brown are intertwined can be seen at beginning, like sand, stone, and luminous jewels... It is looming in the interweaving with the waves, and as a process of gradual "discovery", the story of seabed exploration will be also started slowly from here...
After entering the restaurant, your vision will be filled with ocean blue and mixed with the Mediterranean taste style, your eyes, nasal cavity and even every nerve will feel that you are brought into the immersive seabed.
The stone table with natural texture, the ceiling like a ship board, the ceiling lamp wrapped in fishing nets, the bright crystal lamp with penetrating the sea surface like sunlight, the blue soft decoration...are sparse and dense in order, making the whole seabed space more three-dimensional and colorful.
The central bar counter is regarded as the highlight of the restaurant, which is in the form of waves and also like a shell in shape, echoing the wave-shaped fishing nets hand-woven on the ceiling, as if being caught on the seabed. The design of the bar counter subverts the traditional form in the past, and the wavy lines make every two seats form a certain angle, which is suitable for talking with friends and drinking comfortably.
THE HUNTER is committed to roasting the most authentic Mediterranean dishes with black wood charcoal, thus it has brought back a valuable oven from Spain in order to further improve the restaurant's brand, which is presented as an exhibit at the window, therefore every visiting "hunter" can witness the birth of delicious food and enjoy the sense of accomplishment of "discovery" and "hunting taste".
The classic dining chair has been transformed with meshes in details, the sofa is spliced with different blue textures, and nautical elements are embodied everywhere. The design and transformation of these soft decorations are more regular, in which the inconsistency, laziness and comfort feelings are also shown.
It is worth mentioning that the hand painting on the wall is tailor-made for the restaurant, which describes a story about exploration on the seabed and discovery of delicious food -delicious food never comes from heaven, but is formed after various efforts and trials. It also means that the restaurant is deliberately creating a famous food brand, which is a process of constant exploration and constant discovery.
However, different functional spaces are distinguished based on the keynote dark blue style in the bathroom area at the deepest part of the seabed, as if walking into a deeper seabed, and the hand-painted wall textures and signs will occur throughout the story of seabed exploration...
Tell a story and give a soul. The texture of the space design is especially important, and what's more important is that MAG has created a new brand for THE HUNTER who can feel the use details from the space, thus everyone will seem to be immersed in the story of seabed exploration... The restaurant will also become more self-communicative in the future business.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

The snack bar is located in the most bustling pedestrian street in Xining, which is a great place for business and a popular street for consumers.
The products are positioned in local snacks and Sichuan snacks, so that it owns a wide range of consumers. Considering the commercial location and current environment, the design is more concerned with problems of its investment, operation and image, for it is snacks, the concepts of inheritance, naturalness, exquisiteness and leisure are also have to be considered.

Started with the design scheme of natural scene, the farmers’ activities in the wheat field is the main element of its design with refining and abstraction, combined with the traditional bamboo weaving process. The manifesting of overall space requires interaction among serious scrutiny, function analysis, flow of people, and materials. It is also echo the products and image of the snack bar. The design materials are simple and elegant, the space is full of fashion and art, while the elegant bamboo craftsmanship appropriately expressing the breezy feeling in the wheat field, it flows silently and refreshing to sense the every parts of the space. It is the owner's idea of advocating the nature of product, the designer’s inspiration of creating spiritual life, and a channel for human interactions. PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Crab claws are elixirs turning me into a fairy,
While a glass of liquor leads me to the fairyland.
Let me get drunk at this moment,
At this fairyland under the moonlight.
Crabs were also called 'sharp balls' in ancient times,
Greedy saliva drip down when the crab is shelled and the fat meat emerges.
Dim eyes light up when the claws are eaten with liquor.

The Crab God of Tang Dynasty is located in the Heping District of Shenyang City. Like other series of Crab God, the designer starts from the culture of Tang Dynasty and the aftertaste of it, elaborates the cultural return in an architectural way so as to interpret the prosperity of Tang Dynasty and the flavor of crab with architectural language.
The shimmering light from the stone lamp in the courtyard is wrapped in white mist, thin wisps of which rise up from the ground. Green plants and pine trees add radiance and beauty to each other. Near them stands Buddhist Master Jianzhen. He is shaped to be casting iron, praying into the distance as vividly as life. Dreaming back to the Tang Dynasty, "I" brought culture to Japan in the Tang Dynasty, and now "I" bring the culture back to China.

The designer interprets the brand connotation and the cultural return with life and stories. From the pursuit of master Jianzhen, the Japanese aesthetics are restored to the culture of the Tang Dynasty, neat but not dull, resplendent but not delicate, stretching but not flashy, quaint but vigorous—that is the perfect embodiment of the spirit of the Tang Dynasty. The designer takes advantage of classic composition of Chinese garden art and cleverly draws Japanese garden scenery into the restaurant, takes you through the millennium, unfolds a feast of the Tang Dynasty before your eyes.
The long-lasting lamp in the niche falls gives out a shimmering light, step into the Tang Dynasty along the road of gray bricks.

When placing yourself in the dining area, glancing at the things around while enjoying the delicacy of crabs, your eyes jump over the window ledge and fall onto the lamp wheels, two write brushes with length of half a fathom are hung up next to the paintings beside you, and the warm light is poured on the shoulders of your travel companions. The cultural atmosphere is absorbed and burst out from eyes to mouth, the designer takes diners together back to the Tang Dynasty.
The golden lamps along the corridor is a symbol of expectation for brightness and auspiciousness, and the 'round table' culture, which enjoys great popularity in the Tang Dynasty is preserved by the designer. The moss and ornaments at the center of the round tables represent auspiciousness as well. The water-planted maple branches and the game of go on the windowsill bring the literary atmosphere inside to a climax.

Polished by materials such as washi paper, bamboo weave, solid wood, gray stone, and aluminum profiles with imitative wood grains on its surface, taking advantage of detailed illuminating design and implicit ink landscape, the scenery of Tang’s prosperity is created with rich spatial levels. Different materials arranged in different positions vividly show the cultural atmosphere, and the multi-core design also makes the interior atmosphere a little jumpier and more dynamic. The overall space is well-mixed and integrated, with stony cranes on the mossy rocks stand leisurely coordinated with the wisps of immortality in the courtyard.
Its design language expresses the understanding of the aesthetic interest of the Tang Dynasty in a streamlined layout, which is a contemporary application of the aesthetics of Tang Dynasty.

PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Art endows space with soul, and space shows artistic taste. Cave and streamline connect the whole space, light and energetic, filled with senses of future.
With the freedom and tension of the space initiated by ideality and spirit, the integration of personalization and aesthetic feeling of the brand deduces the variability of space. It outlines the felicity and elegance after the collision between nature and time under the mutual reflection of material, texture and shadow under the mutual reflection of material, texture and shadow, which has a unique and novel artistic tune as a whole.

Use space as the medium, shadow as pen, and draw the outline of a quiet and natural place which is far away from noise. Ornamental flowers create a unique atmosphere in the space, and also endow the diner with more imagination and interaction.

Making use of the red brick hole, between transparent and not transparent, blur the sense of boundary inside and outside, therefore the corridor of the private room is also added a faint haziness. In the relatively independent space, quietly seclude in the noisy world, which presents a profound sense of oriental aesthetics between the virtual and the real.

The design will come back to the real look if it can shake off the constraint of the concrete. Koolhaas points out that "the essence of architecture is dream-making", therefore human beings exist in space. In fact, the communication with space is the poetry and dream that is pursued when the design is constructing special memory and sense of identity.
