PROJECT

DESCRIPTION

Location: Jinan, China
Site area: 44ha
Construction area: 392,000 sqm
Project time: 2019
Client: Jinan west city investment and development group
Collaborators: AS Architecture Studio / ALSA Landscape design / SMEDI
The operation of Jinan Metro in 2019 accelerated the development of the city and initiated a rapid growth of metro system in Jinan, transforming into a Metro City. The project is located in the area along the West expansion of M1 metro line, connecting four stations including West Railway Station, Central Park, CBD business district and Convention and Exhibition Center. The site area is 44 hectares and the construction area is 392000 square meters, including 13000 subway terminal buildings, 220000 commercial buildings and 159000 square meters of parking area.
As the implementation of a metro project begins complex with the involvement of multiple type of specialization of works and manpower, the design range, process and challenge are different compared to those of general projects. The project is designed in coordination with urban planning, architecture, rail system, transportation, landscape and interior. The implementation of this project has to be progress along the construction of M1 subway line, intensifying the concept of TOD in Jinan.
Design objectives:
Build a model of Transit-oriented development (TOD)
and construction along China's metro system Design threats:
Development of metro system has had a significant impact and influence to the evolution of a city, especially in the region of transportation, land acquisition, industry, financial, city demolition and relocation. Therefore, a higher expectation and condition are required to the city management.
Design method:
The project implemented the concept of "TOD integrated system design" where following the principle of "integration of underground space and subway station, and integration of landscape and neighborhoods". At the end, forming a complete and systematic metro city master plan, creating a centralized design and leading the city to the path of TOD model.
Design concept:
Traffic Specialization: The main idea of TOD is to organize a proper transit circulation and transportation guidance in a city. The design is proposed to solve the traffic issues based on the research and analysis of current condition and improving the city traffic system by estimating the traffic and parking demands of a city in the future. Thus, establishing the design concept of three-dimensional traffic, low-carbon and humanistic traffic system along the central axis of Jinan West Station become the main approaches of the city. Propose a strategy plan of road traffic, public traffic, pedestrian traffic and static traffic, as well as the nodes of rail stations.
Four sites:
"One station, one story" – Overall planning along the M1 metro line and the neighborhoods with a specific concept and intention on each of them. Emphasizes the styles and efficiency of the transition space in between each stations and buildings. It is also important to determine the scale of parking and supporting facilities during the progress. The landscape of each site should reflect the concepts of "outdoor" and "light and green" on the site.
Eight nodes
: The subway metro system has upgraded and improved the pedestrian system, enhancing the networking and connection between each nodes of the metro stations and the neighborhood sites, to achieve a good quality on the landscape, continuity and connection of the green corridors.
Six plots:
According to the concept of TOD, the underground space and on ground landscape along the sides of the central axis of the station should be reserve for the future implementation to optimize the utilization of land, improve the value of underground space and reduce the waste of land in the future. For further study, it will be focus on exploring the potential value of the underground and on ground development of the other six sites.
Central Park plot: According to the intention of the development, it will be built into an entertainment and leisure distribution center in the west of Jinan. The underground and upper ground including the landscape will be integrated into each other.
West Railway Station plot: Propose a three-dimensional transportation system for the transition line, solve the existing traffic problems of the west railway station, and offer a smooth, convenient, efficient and organized transit system model. Diversify functions, improve quality and create an efficient, comprehensive and integrated image of a modern urban metro city.
