PROJECT
Established in 1951, the Tianjin First Machine Tool Plant was included in the "Eighth Batch of China's 20th Century Architectural Heritage" in 2023. This project covers an area of 746 square meters and occupies a location rich in history and memory. The site was once the plant’s employee cafeteria, now standing among the ancient trees of the factory grounds, bearing the traces of past life and human warmth. Today, this project has taken root in this space, as if continuing a new chapter of its story.
The Secret Garden is the centerpiece of the entire project and serves as the starting point of your journey. Upon entering, you are greeted by an elegant white peacock standing quietly by the fountain, like a guardian of this secret haven. The soft flow of water against the edges of the pool creates a refreshing atmosphere, transporting visitors away from the city’s hustle and bustle. At the garden’s center hangs a grand crystal chandelier, symbolizing the union of tradition and modernity. Sunlight filters through the chandelier, casting rainbow-like hues over the greenery and adding a dreamlike quality to the garden. Inspired by traditional European courtyards, this garden incorporates modern elements, creating a space that is both classic and innovative. The Time Halls on either side of the archway provide a contrast to the peaceful natural surroundings, enhancing the immersive experience.
The Floral Art Zone** continues the design language of the Secret Garden. The walls, decorated with PU floral carvings, are intricate and three-dimensional, creating depth. The petal-shaped lights on the ceiling cast a soft glow, and the hanging decorative plants resonate with the garden’s theme, creating a harmonious, multi-layered spatial atmosphere.
In Time Hall , natural-themed murals and elegant lighting create a dignified yet warm ambiance, offering guests a unique design experience. Exiting Time Hall 3 and passing through a corridor lined with books, you arrive at Secret Café .
Secret Café is a blend of nature and opulence. The peacock chair at the entrance, crafted with exquisite rattan workmanship, presents an elegant form, while the brilliant chandelier and greenery create a sense of harmony. The folding windows blur the boundary between indoors and outdoors when fully open, inviting natural light and fresh air to flow freely, merging the indoor and outdoor spaces. Guests can enjoy coffee here, listening to the sounds of nature and sinking into a comfortable tranquility.
The Machine Tool Plant Botanical Corner displays butterfly and insect specimens, with a mirrored stainless steel ceiling that enhances the sense of spaciousness. The interplay of light and shadow creates an effect of reality intertwined with illusion, enriching the space with depth and extension.
The Art Gallery resembles a private gallery, featuring deep green tones complemented by soft lighting, creating a serene and elegant atmosphere. Classic and contemporary artworks on the walls engage in dialogue, adding rich layers to the space. A centerpiece round table combines floral elements with modern craftsmanship, with resin’s transparent quality making petals appear as if they float in midair, casting delicate shadows that enhance the natural and dreamlike ambiance.
In Time Hall , a golden circular fireplace is set into a stone wall, adding warmth and an artistic touch. Symmetrical seating booths offer comfortable spaces for socializing, with plant partitions balancing privacy and openness. The central long table is ideal for gatherings, and the chandelier above fills the space with brightness, adding layers to the social setting.
Following the garden path, visitors are led up an elegant spiral staircase to the Music Library on the second floor. Spacious and tranquil, it overlooks the garden below. In this space filled with books and music, shelves display art-related literature. Window-side seating provides a perfect spot for reading or engaging in quiet conversation, making the Music Library an ideal place for relaxation and inner reflection.
Every detail within this Secret Garden enriches the layers of the experience, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the inspiration and charm of this uniquely crafted space.
