PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
Lujiazui Properties opened its Shanghai New Bund Mansion Experience Center situated in a modern office building near the project site. Located in a new luxury residential area along the Huangpu River, the development stands as one of Shanghai's few exclusive low-density neighborhoods. It harmoniously blends ecology, parks, waterfront living, and commerce, embodying the quintessential Shanghai style. The interior design focused on crafting the Shanghai-style art experience center with an overarching design strategy, facilitating future projects developments with heritage, depth, and "inherent sophistication," ensuring this project distinguishes itself amidst other luxury residences in the region, offering unique, memorable qualities.
Guided by the theme of time, the designer incorporated classic elements reminiscent of Old Shanghai, reinterpreting them with a modern sense of fashion and architectural refinement. This approach allows the space to serve as a "translation of local culture," blending traditional Shanghai charm with contemporary design. Moving through the space is like walking through a cinematic experience, engaging with friendly-scaled architectural and spatial elements, and revealing a future lifestyle rooted in Shanghai’s heritage.
One of the challenges was adapting the functional space of the experience center to an office building environment. Office buildings are often enclosed spaces with core-centered layouts, limited floor heights, and restricted floor area and depth, which contrasts with the open and inviting atmosphere required for the experience center. Through various interior design strategies, the designer resolved this conflict.
The layout is divided into two primary zones: the south side is dedicated to reception and display areas, designed to evoke the quiet luxury of a Shanghai-style hotel, while the north side features an outdoor garden concept. This area encloses four model rooms, immersing visitors in a vibrant courtyard setting. The elevator hall serves as a transitional link, balancing the flow of movement and anchoring the space with visual focal points at both ends of the corridor. The ceiling design, in particular, showcases innovative solutions to spatial limitations, making this project a prime example of adaptive design within a constrained environment.
South: Fashion Modern and Old School Impression
The tour begins in the elevator hall, enveloped by a luxurious green velvet curtain. Upon entering the south side, visitors are greeted by a sophisticated welcome area featuring an elegant arc-shaped stone wall, a sleek black reception desk, and twinkling starry lights. The ground is inlaid with guiding signs that direct the flow of guests, while a mirrored ceiling enhances the space, creating an illusion of height in the dimly lit environment.
The model display area is intentionally sparse and minimalist, adorned with retro elements and cyber electronic screens that establish a sensory balance. This harmonious blend of old school and modern aesthetics is echoed in the grid ceiling and checkered stone floor, which extend throughout the space, linking various functional areas and contributing to an infinite sense of height.
The video room is also draped in green velvet curtains, maintaining the cohesive design theme.
A "Shikumen" door frame elegantly divides the space, where classical and contemporary styles coexist harmoniously. The layered light and shadow evoke the essence of Shanghai, transforming the door frame into a picturesque frame that leads into a square guest area, reminiscent of a cozy private living room.
The negotiation area, encased in a square box, offers an independent yet interactive space adjacent to the water bar. Here, a retro leather sofa pairs beautifully with an old-fashioned floor lamp and a thick woven carpet, creating a warm and flexible atmosphere beneath the reflective ceiling.
The circular water bar, a striking focal point next to the curtain wall, features an inverted cascading design that captures attention. Vintage-style lights reflect through layers of wine glasses, creating an exquisite, elegant, and dreamy ambiance. Accompanied by soft saxophone melodies and the aroma of coffee, this space evokes the charm of old Shanghai, as if time has seamlessly blended with modern sophistication.
Dark green leather sofas, Roman columns adorned with deep red flowers, and softly glowing floor lamps complement the retro allure of the black and white checkered stone floor, embodying the project's dual essence of modern and classic. The service staff’s attire harmonizes with the decor, featuring dark green cheongsams accented with dark red floral patterns.
The entire water bar and wine rack are illuminated by warm, low-temperature yellow lighting, casting a golden glow on the ceiling, dark wooden bar, high chairs, and dark green stone countertops, all framed by the lush green velvet curtains. In this space, time and light converge, offering an interpretation that beautifully fuses the vibrancy of a bustling city with the refined ambiance of modern urban life.
North: Secret Natural Realm and the Boundary of Life
A green velvet curtain wall serves as a transitional space, inviting visitors to connect emotionally with the visual style. Woven furniture, an abundance of lush greenery, light-colored checkered wood floors, and white stone come together to create an "outdoor garden" within the interior. This design evokes a sense of serenity, bridging the gap between life’s memories and the present moment.
The space is simply laid out, with four model rooms enclosed, allowing the natural outdoor atmosphere to seamlessly flow into the interior. Visitors can stroll through this garden, envisioned as part of the future community, with ample areas for rest and activity.
In essence, a truly exceptional project captures the aesthetic and cultural spirit of its era. The visual elements employed in this design will continue to appear in subsequent developments, including clubs and courtyards, ensuring that the blend of modernity and classicism pervades the entire project. It creates a distinct identity of Lujiazui in the real estate market, ultimately shaping a memorable and unique brand image.
