DESCRIPTION

Nantong is a beautiful city by the riverbank of the Yangtze River, with low and flat terrain of soft ups and downs. It is called the “Gate for Yangtze River and East China Sea”. Unique scenery in the city is created by the exuberance of its hydrology resources, and the harmony between the riverbank the city and the forest that create a nearly perfect balance of delicate and lavish beauty for the world to see.
These works are located in such southern water town. Just like its slogan, “facing the Yangtze River with birds' twitting and flowers’ scent”, the theme for Nantong Riverside Planning Hall represents “a harmonized coexistence between Nature and Culture”. At night, the lights from Nantong Riverside Planning Hall are shining in concert with the river, just like a light wave patting a full moon, or like the light from the remote Milky Way. The profile of the works demonstrates the elegance of the palace, with a radiant splendor.
Antoni Gaudi, the great Spanish architect once said: “The straight line belongs to men, the curved to God”. This divine curve is presented at the entrance of Nantong Riverside Planning Hall, like a soft wind caressing the tree canopies, like a wave washing the shore. It represents the open, flexible, inclusive, and accommodating temperament of Nantong people, as well as the integration and coexistence between humanity, nature, architecture and space. The external scenery is reflected by a glass wall right across the entrance, that makes if feel like the garden enters the space, offering a sense of ceremony according to the principle of “Front hall with rear courtyard, and etiquette first, followed by nature”. High-reflecting Paris gray marble is used for the lobby floors. Walking on this floor with glinting lights feels like the deep grey floor is covered with a layer of waves, a perfect mirror of this southern water town. The arc element at the entrance is extended to the wall, the interior decoration and the dome, while these arcs join at the right center of the lobby, delivering the visual focus of the entire space to the point right in front of the reception desk, guiding the visitors to their destination.
A further step from the lobby and the brand area will lead to the City Exhibition Hall, intertwined with the arc and curved surface. The melody from the piano is playing with the soft notes, just like the lines, and the sand table is placed at the center of the entire building. A surrounding floor-to-ceiling glass wall of more than 120 degrees provides natural light at daytime, while allowing visitors to enjoy the scenery night sky view. This space is called Eye of Time by the designer, in which the spatial level and 3D effects are highlighted via two rows of wood hollow energy-saving circular lights on the ceiling, guided with the streamline. It is like an eye in the sky, gazing at the sand table, gazing at the land with a beauty unchanged by history. At the center of the exhibition hall lays a thriving indoor plant whose green leaves transmit a vibrant and lively touch to the slightly greyish space, and it also corresponds to the ____tree beyond the glass wall, becoming one more example of the theme of this work: a harmonized coexistence between Nature and Culture.
Another passage in the lobby leads to the office and leisure area. Contrary to the exhibition hall, the color tone in this region is warmer, and more peaceful. Natural light passes into the inside via the curtain made of natural cotton and linen, delivering a soft light on mild wood veneer with reality and intimacy to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Accompanied by the water scenery beyond the glass wall, the long corridor is no longer dull, while the smart positions of water bar and reading zone offer some fashion and culture style to this leisure region. The sculpture works made with logs, and ornaments made with ceramic and PMMA are all handicrafts, with a thorough reflection of the designer’s idea and vision on energy saving and environmental protection. After you pass through a tall book wall and sit on the premier sofa to enjoy a peaceful moment, the sunshine in the afternoon, the humming song from the water, and the scent of books, all bring you into a reverie, enjoying the scenery, the carpe diem, the birds' twitter and scent of flowers.
